EV & Hybrid Tax Breaks
Electric vehicles: 0 / 0 / 0
Full battery-electric vehicles import into Guyana at 0% customs duty, 0% excise tax, and 0% VAT โ regardless of the vehicle's age or power output. This is the strongest tax position of any powertrain category currently available.
Hybrids: the 2026 changes
Effective February 16, 2026, hybrids up to 2,000cc became VAT-exempt under VAT Act Schedule 11, ยง5(c). A March 2026 HS-code addendum went further for the 1,501โ2,000cc band specifically: those hybrids are now duty-only, meaning excise and VAT are both 0% and duty is the sole tax that applies.
In practice, this means a new hybrid in the 1,501โ2,000cc range can land meaningfully cheaper than an equivalent petrol vehicle in the same band โ run both through the calculator to see the gap on your specific vehicle.

- What tax break applies to hybrids?
- Effective February 16, 2026, hybrids up to 2,000cc became VAT-exempt. A March 2026 addendum set hybrids between 1,501โ2,000cc to duty-only treatment โ 0% excise and 0% VAT, so duty is the only tax that applies.
- Do these breaks apply to used vehicles too?
- The EV 0/0/0 schedule applies regardless of age. Hybrid exemptions are most relevant to vehicles under 4 years, since vehicles 4+ years already pay 0% duty and 0% VAT under the standard age divider โ check the duty calculator for your specific vehicle.
